Help! My 1999 X1 that I just bought has a ghost or something in the wiring. The guy who owned it before me tried to turn it into a street fighter so there were no front turn signals and its got these funny dual headlights that look like a bug's eyes. So I bought factory turn signals and plugged them in and nothing. The low beam doesn't work either. I bought a new switch housing since the old one was fried and I bought a new flasher relay. I can tell that the wiring harness wasn't touched - at least not the main part, and also their aren't any shorts. What is wrong? Please help - I have my license test on Tuesday!!!!} |

What exactly happened to the old turn signal switch that caused it to be fried?
Do the rear turn signals work?
What else has been modified/worked on besides the dual headlights that might involve the wiring? |

Well the low beam headlight had a constant power going to it with an extra orange/white wire and the metal piece that you plug the bulb into melted! That same orange/white wire went into the switch. The rear turn signals don't work either. The funny thing is that the indicator on the dash isn't working either but when I connected the orange/white wire to one of the turn signals, it acted like a running light with the indicator on the dash on but when I hit the switch to make it blink, it just goes off.} |

Based on my experience, there is no magic bullet when it comes to situations like this. I'm afraid you'll have to trace all the related wires from the fuse box to the blinkers as well as the headlight assembly. Fortunately there aren't that many wires to track down but still a good bit of detective work. A wiring diagram could be your best friend. Good luck. |
