I have a 2003 Firebolt XB-9R. I'm just wondering if anybody out there knows if it is possible to install the ZTL-2 brake to an older Firebolt like mine. And if it is, what it takes to do so. Replace master cylinder, brake caliper, brake line?

I'm planning on converting the front brake caliper from 6 piston to eight if it only takes a few hundred dollars.

Yes, you just need to get a ZTL2 caliper, master cylinder, and brake line. It will all bolt right on. : )

Normally I would provide the part numbers, but Buell has been playing musical numbers with these calipers, so I can't keep track. Also, the caliper is available in black or red.

Oh the cost: $350 for the caliper, $50 for the line, and $100 for the MC.

Ok, thanks for the tip. Hopefully I can bolt these on before the track days.

I'm a subscriber to Sport Rider and they raced a Buell Firebolt (September 2009 issue), they started off with the old caliper and then changed to the ZTL2 brakes, and they were faster by 3 seconds per lap, just from the brake change.

When I was riding last summer, I was braking once very hard on bumpy pavement and the feel from the brakes were pretty nerve racking. I think the stopping power is the same, but the ZTL2 has a lot better feel to it. I rode a demo 1125cr and the brakes were pretty good on that one.

Also, now that Buells are not made anymore, I think it will be easier to get brake pads for the ZTL2 caliper than the old ones.

Upgrading from the stock master cylinder will help quite a bit too. I personally can't tell the difference, but I am not Rossi. Different pads can make a huge difference with feel too.

It sure does look pretty though.

I picked up the complete ZTL2 setup from a wrecked 1125r off eBay for $250.

I bought the upgraded brakes from americansportbike.com, the price came to $500 with shipping. The parts look high quality products. Will be putting them on soon.

The master cylinder comes with a black brake lever, I'm gonna have to change that since on my bike the lever is silver.

Cool! Looks great. I am jealous the new calipers come with the ZTL2 highlighted like that.

There is no OEM silver lever that fits, so you are going to have to get one aftermarket.

If your lucky you can pick the complete setup up off fleabay for $250 like I did, but that was before Buell closed down.
