Hi. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I installed a D&D slip-on on my 2000 x1 race header, and for the life of me, I can't seem to keep it from sliding back and rubbing the rear tire. I tightened the flange clamp as tight as I dared, still the same result. Anyone ever had this happen? Any ideas? thanks. | ||

Sounds like you need a dowel pin to me. You can do this by drilling a 1/4 inch hole through the header, muffler and clamp, and either welding a 1/4 dowel to the clamp or drilling through the muff and header only, and inserting a round head 1/4 inch screw into the hole and placing the clamp over the head of the screw. Cheap fix, but it should work. You might want to leave the hole oblong to allow for expansion of the exhaust (recommended). You can do this with a small rat tail file. Also, use a high temp anti seize on the dowel and the slip joints, such as FelPro C5A.  | ||

sounds like a good idea to me. I had already put a 1/8 bolt that I threaded into the header, but it came out. I didn't think about putting the clamp over it. Thanks for the tip. | ||
