I've got the forks and upper tree off, but I can't seem to get the lower tree our of the steering head... any suggestions? Do I need to use heat to loosen it?

It's been a while since I did the job, but I had trouble removing the lower triple trees on my '04 XB. If I recall correctly the only thing holding the lower in place is the upper triple tree and the friction from the steering head bearings on the steering stem.

I think I sprayed a little PB blaster around the lower steering head bearing and beat the top of the steering stem with a hammer, using a block of wood to prevent damage to the threads at the top of the steering stem.

Thanks, I got it (used heat and a rubber mallet), but now the lower bearing came out with it and it is still stuck on the tree... I'm trying to break some of the corrosion with WD40 to get it off. I guess I am replacing the steering head bearings too... lol.
