The '10 model bikes now come with a prewired battery tender plug.
I have a couple of battery tenders, and they have a uniform male/female plug attached.
(and others I've looked at all have the same connector system).
The one on the Buell does have this same plug configuration, but also has a third socket that would take a spade connector.
Does anyone know what this would be for? (I don't have the electrical manual for the bike yet).
I assume I can still plug my battery tender in without a problem, but don't know what the third plug is for.

The picture shows the wired-in plug with the spade connector on the left of it, and I'm holding the end of my battery tender lead.

Shoot... that makes me want to run out and look at my '09. It came with a cable prewired as well and since I wasn't plugging anything into it, I did't pay too much attention to the details.

I'd guess that it's some sort of a ground, like the third plug on a wall socket.

Any response to this plug? What is the flat tab 3rd connection for?

I personal guess is extra reinforcement to hold the cap on. I don't know the official answer

The third terminal is for HD's smart charger which charges the battery faster and monitors charging. You can still use the regular two pin charger though, the three pin connector was used to give more options.

Thanks anony- Is the Smart Charger available?
Deltran or HD?
And was a lead developed that will extend out the frame so you don't have to remove seat to plug in? I keep my bikes plugged in so they are always ready to ride.

The third terminal is likely a voltage sense lead that the battery charger uses to more accurately determine the amount of current to be applied to the other two leads. Some power supplies, especially those that may have to deliver heavy current, have sense lines.
