i am about to buy a pair of stock cylinders/piston assemblies part number 22662-99y for my X1,
will i need to hone the bores and gap the rings or do they just fit out of the box ?

I am also going to get a pair of stock heads 16797-98y and 16827-98yb, would it be a good idea to lap the valves or again just fit out of the box.

The pistons are fitted as an assembly, the rings can be checked easily,1/3down the bore.IF you have the tools, ability to check the bore to piston clearance, remember all parts have an manufacturing tolerance variations. I do not let just anyone put a hone to my parts. There is much work done in machine shops today around the country where the "machinist" does not know how to read a mic. to that note, most all manufactured work is superior to the average shop.
I worked with and talked to everyday HD mechanics that took new cylinders to be honed so the piston could drop thru the bore and gapped the rings by honing the cylinder, this was verified by another old time H-D mechanic.this maybe fine for those with the 1930 hds .
