Just got a set of nallin stage two thunderstorm heads for my 98 M2. Already have a set of TS heads on them, wich i plan to sell when replacing them with the nallin heads.

But what should be e good choice to do now i have to take the engine apart. Thinking about a HSR 42 or some hotter cams. Now i'm running the S1WL cams wich i think are the SE 497? cams.

Should i go for hotter cams and wich cams? or go for the mikuni HSR 42.

Getting both might be a little to expensive at this time unless i can get my hands in some good used cams and HSR

For the rest it has a full race kit

hi richardm2,
if you want more power go for the cams,if you want to make the most of the power you have get the carb,it do,s not up power but do,s improve throttle response and the throttle doesn't seem to need twisting as far to get it wide open,
also check out the manifold, has it still got casting lines and has it still got a rough inner surface?if yes smooth it down but not to a polished finish, with my hsr fitted there was a step from the carb to the manifold mouth, with the hsr installed and slide held open i scribed the edge of the step, then removed the step,if you keep the stock carb it can be modified-before i had the hsr i put a yost jet kit in,i noticed an improvement, theres a hole in the slide that can be enlarged and the bottom outer edge of the slide if i remember right can be filed and i think one side of the edge of the butterfly can be filed to improve flow and throttle response???but check on this before you do anything to the carb
have you thought of installing high ratio roller rockers instead of cams?they are far easier to put in,

hi again,
having gone away and had a think on what i would do in your situation i have come up with-put some 10.5 comp forged pistons in,these are about 50g each lighter than stock, these will improve engine efficiency and up the potential rpm limit, then put in light weight pushrods, these also up the potential rpm(about 150rpm total),then when funds allow, get the cams, carb etc to take advantage of your mods,

make sure when buying the hsr that u get a new one becasue they changed the throttle cable bracket from the right to left. and trust me i didnt know about it when i bought my first on for my old sportster and it was almost impossible to get the throttle from being hung up.

what really the problem was is that routing the cable to the right side of the carb put to much of a bend in the cable, making it snatchy. like wouldnt shut on its own. but i got it to work but much easier and professional to get the right one. oh and i had to run the cable through to the left side through triple trees then curved it in by the petcock.

Turned out to be a complete top end rebuild.

Stage 2 heads, nallin 1250 kit with huricane pistons. HSR42 (165 main jet?) and the SE 536 cams.
