Does anyone know if the Buell Heated grips kit that is listed in the current Buell catalog will work on a 2004 XB12S? The part number is N1050.1AK.

It would require a bit of splicing since the OEM is designed to use the accessory plug not available on 03-07 XBs (except the Uly).

A cheaper, easier route would be Polly heaters. They're around $40 and they go inside the bars. The wires run through the bars and out a hole or holes which you must drill into the bottom of the bars) and they have a real clean look.

Al at American Sport Bike sells just the OEM switch by itself for about $55-$60 which is really easy to splice into the Pollys for a factory look.

The only valid good reason for going through the trouble of splicing the whole OEM kit in would be if you have bar ends that insert farther than an inch or so inside the bars or bar end mirrors that insert farther than an inch or so inside the bars.

Or if you're running aluminum bars. Too much of a heat sink for Pollys but inside steel bars (such as stock) they have two settings. Hot and OUCH!!

My brother put the Polly heaters on his ULY and mounted a rocker switch on his dash. I liked the way you recommended getting the OEM switch from American Sport Bike. I will get the hand guards and I will be set for the winter. I got wet on the way home yesterday and I'm trying to find a Uly number plate and wind-shield. That will help reduce the amount of rain I get on my upper body and reduce the wind noise. Thanks for the info.

I have the pollys and like them a lot. Takes a couple miles to warm up, but it takes a couple miles to get cold anyway, if you know what I mean.

The switch would be a nice upgrade. Mine was hard to mount on a lightning (no good places) and is now rusty after a couple of years.

The other tricky part is drilling a small hole in the bars... I don't know what the xb9sx bars are made of, but it was really hard to drill through...

Polly heaters with the supplied switch:

Then I found a really small toggle switch and drilled a tiny hole in my switch housing:

Then I bought the OEM switch from Al

And as for the hole in the front of my bike that was left from the original switch I got clever and used a step drill bit to make it bit bigger and installed a BMW type socket.

Nice! Where did you get the wings for your grips?

Hand guard extenders are from Tourtech.

A quick google should show you the way : )
