I am new here. I have looked around and I really wasn't sure where to post this question. I am wanting to purchase a new xb9sx. This will be the first streetbike that I have owned. The only thing that is keeping me from purchasing the bike is the fact of insurance. I have called several places and I have received outrageous prices. One place quoted me 6,000 a year. They said that it is because of my age(24) and the fact that the bike is high risk make it so high. I have never had a speeding ticket nor an accident and I have been driving since I was 15 1/2. When I went and talked to the harley dealer they told me they could run a insurance quote for me and include it in the payment I make each month. They guessed it would be around 45 a month..they weren't sure because they had to do a credit check first. I know that most of my friends only pay 240 a year. They drive different types of bikes though. I am just wondering if the reason why I having such problems with insurance down her is because no one knows what a Buell is for some reason. The area I live in is Chopper country. So I was just wondering if any one could help me out. It would be greatly appreciated.

All insurance is regulated on a state by state basis. Call two or three local agents that deal in auto/mc insurance and they can tell you how the rates are figured.

Good luck!

Try Sentry Insurance...they understand Buell products and offer highly competitive rates. I found them to be reasonable verses all the other companies I called. Give them a call at 1-800-3SENTRY. They are all really helpful, and most of the agents are also riders. Good luck.

I had the same trouble. I am 28, and live in the city. Insurance companies laugh when I call...

Anyhow I had outrageous quotes too, even HD insurance was not great.

But I ended up going with Safeco. They insured my bike (full coverage, $1000 dect.) for a little over $800 a year.

They seem to have a lenient pricing plan for Buells.

Thats just crazy I am 23 and my insurance is a touch under 400 a year and i only have a 250 deductible. that is through farm bureau. however one thing i did is added it to my car policy instead of putting it on a separate motorcycle policy this dropped the price by over half don't know if your insurance will do that.

When do you turn 25? I bet you the quote will go down a lot at age 25. Also jack up the deductible to $1000.

I'm 29, married, 3 speeding tickets(car), and I shopped all around. I checked with American Family last and it turned out to be $27 a month for my XB9S, full coverage, $250 deductibles. My house and cars are with AmFam as well. AmFam does not consider the Buell a "superbike", so it's much cheaper.

State Farm was runner up at $34 a month for a stand alone policy with $1000 deductibles.

In Minnesota, as a 21 year-old male with a few tickets and 2004 XB12R, I welcomed the $29/mos (for 6 months) price Nationwide gave me.
$100 deductibles and full coverage... I was sold!

Insurance rates vary with age from bike to state to insurance company.

I had HD insurance on my Sportster and it almost doubled when I bought the Buell, so I switched to Regency since they were almost the same as the low rates that I had on my Sportster XL1200S.

On my Honda VFR800 I use State Farm since they are the cheapest, go figure.

I am 62 years old with no accidents or any recent traffic violations.

Hello,
I know insurance varies with state/motorcycle...alot of insurance agencies think Buell is a sport racing bike, its not. Try State Farm..we go through them and they are good for the Nebraska are, but like i said, it will depend on your area and the bike. Good luck!

i got an insurance quote for me. i'm 20 years old never had a ticket (in my home state). I was quoted 220 bucks a year. This was also like the cheapest insurance i could get. So no coverage on the bike.

I have had my XB12Ss for a little over a year. What's really weird is that I checked insurance at several places and about $900 per year was the best I could get (57 yr and clean record). This year I got better coverage (Progressive)for $271. Their quote last year was $1000+. Go figure.

I just renewed mine, 2004 XB12R, as well as the wife's 96 R850R and 92 K75S. We're both 30, and it was $390 for full coverage on all three, $250 deductible.

I eight years ago I was paying $400 or so for my 95 S2. The funny thing is that I've had three claims (first was $1200, second was a friend totaling the bike: $5840, and the third in 2004 for $1900) and the insurance still went down every year.

WOW thats insane mine is classified as a cruiser not a sport bike and my insurance is 340.00 a year for full coverage and im 31 and got more tickets than anyone i know i get pulled over sometimes daily! call a progressive agent to underwrite policy for progressive not progressive themselves the sometimes have older books that dont state classification of vehicle

My insurance last year was like 457 for just liability. i do have a oui, couple speeding tickets. so i dont have a good record. but this year it dropped to half the price of last year. so after ur first year i would be surprised if it would drop quite abit. and my oui was a year and a half ago. insurance is weird.
good luck. and dont give up

34 yo single male.
2-3 tickets in 2-3 years (4 points I think)
$240 a year from progressive, full coverage, $500 deductible (? I think)
Progressive seems to be hands down the best in Michigan, but we have weird no fault laws.

Check with Shelly Knerr at State Farm across from the Midway Tavern. She carries mine and it was cheaper than Farmers Ins.

I thought my quotes were crazy and varied wildly on my 05 mustang, but that's nothing compared to when i got my bike. I was quoted anywhere from 900 to 3600 a year for my XB9R. So I talked to Country Companies, who has my car and it was 400 a year for full coverage with a 500 deductible.
I'm 23 with several speeding tickets but no accidents except one claim where a guy with no insurance hit me in my car.

$300.00 a year Liability with $150,000.00 injury benefits thru Progressive. I do have my autos thru them also.

I have a friend that sell auto/bike insurance and said that most companies don't care what the bike is but how the handle bars are located on the bike from the factory. This is how they rate the quote. Most of that I would say holds true. Until lately.
