If my coil was starting to go bad or has gone bad, what would the symptoms be? Thanks Rod |

It would probably start misfiring or running rough. If you suspect the coil, remove it and do some ohmmeter checks: 1) On Rx1 scale, measure the primary coil windings on each outer pin to the center pin of the 3 pin connector. Each coil S/B 0.5 to 0.7 ohms. 2) On Rx1K scale, measure the secondary coil windings at the two high voltage terminals. It S/B 5.5K to 7.5K ohms. If either 1) or 2) tests indicate a short which would be less than the target values, replace the coil. If either 1) or 2) tests indicate an open circuit or no continuity, replace the coil. Note if both 1) and 2) tests pass the first time, try heating up the coil with a hair dryer to simulate operating temperatures and then repeat the tests. |
