I recently purchased a 99 X1. The rear muffler mount was broken. I replaced it with a new one. Three weeks later the thing is trashed again. Anyone know of an
inexpensive remedy for this? Design flaw?
Is this a common problem?

"Z" bracket?

Not the Z bracket. It's the clamp that wraps around the muffler itself and bolts to the Z bracket.

Do you have the updated front hanger on it?

See http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/17036.html

That kit comes with the inverted Y front hanger, the regulator bracket, and a new rear hanger bracket (the one that keeps breaking for you). If you don't have that inverted y front hanger on it now, I'm confident that will fix your problem.
