Anybody have any advice as to why my bike would be popping and stuttering at 3,000 RPMs? It runs just fine above and below, but around this it pops through the carburetor and the tach needle jumps like crazy! Any ideas?

Sounds like it is likely to be electrical, but I'd rule out intake air leak as well. For electrical, check all battery grounds. Even if they are snug, they can be covered with corrosion.

Check all spark plug wire connections and also the low voltage feed connections at coil.

Jumper the kickstand safety switch to ensure it is not intermittently opening.

If none of the above, check all connectors and fuses under the tank and seat, at the ECM, etc.

New spark plugs can't hurt.

Thanks for the ideas, Blake, Blake, Blake, Blake and Blake!

I wouldn't think it would be the intake seals because it only happens around 3k rpms, but I will check it out just the same.

The battery is only a year old and the spark plugs/wires about two. The kickstand has been jumped for quite some time now as well.

I'll give everything a quick once over and keep you posted. Thanks again!

Check the ECM. This happened to me. My seat was pressing against the ECM connectors, and caused a bad short. After pulling my hair out replacing spark plug wires, and checking for manifold leak, I was leaning on the ECM while it was running, and it went haywire. Replaced the ECM, and added washers to the seat latch to raise the seat position, and problem solved.
