Hello Buellers

I am changing my stator winding today and unbolted the shifter shaft assembly to get access to the bottom bolt on the little plate that goes over the stator winding wiring. Anyway, on reassembly I noticed that the two mounting holes on the shifter shaft assembly are elongated by design, as if to adjust it one way or the other. I have the 97-98 service manual (bike is a 97) and I found a note on page 6-23 that says to see 6.13 for the shifter pawl adjustment. My book doesn't appear to have a 6.13. Sooo...how do I bolt down the shifter shaft assembly?? Will it be OK to just center it in the elongated holes?? I moved it back and forth and shifted it in different positions and it definetely changes the way the shifter works. I don't want to close the primary up until I'm pretty sure I've got it right. Any advice appreciated, thank, Bruce
