alrighty, any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
when i am applying the front brakes and the front forks compress there is a very disconcerting (and new) knocking noise coming from what sounds like the cylinder area. as you may know all the different variations of "knock" are pretty hard to describe so i apologize for the vaugeness. it sounds like something is shifting and bumping in to something else. it happens when the bike is running or not. i can feel a "bump" through the handle bars, as well.
all i've done so far is try to locate the sound. i'm almost positive it's NOT in the front forks/brake area. it sounds like it's coming from the front of the engine/frame area. i've removed the airbox cover, air filter, the air filter tray, the vent hoses and the air temperature indicator so i could get a look at the top of the engine area. it was to no avail as i'm no closer to identifying the location of the sound and i can't see anything loose with what i've done so far.
a little background: recently my 2005 xb9sx was high-sided. i replaced the mirror, brake lever and right footpeg as well as the right frame puck. the right corner of the frame now has a smallish 3 inch by 1.5 in (and 0.5 in deep) dent in it where the right frame puck rests. during the high-side the installed frame puck ripped off. =(
there was no knock before the high-side.
