today i noticed some sticky goo on the top of my shock. turned out to be the stuff that encases the electrical stuff related to the timing sensor under the timing cover. it had gotten hot and started to melt, dripping down to make a mess. anybody else out there have this problem? | ||

Isn't that stuff inside the cover? I don't see a hole for it to drip from.. | ||

why question my statement? just because you don't see a passageway does not mean there isn't one. obviously, the reason i know what it is and where it is coming from, is that i opened the timing chamber by removing the cover and looking inside i am looking for confirmation from others and possibly usable info. i already have my own possible fix, but am looking for others who have had the problem. | ||

I remember reading about the same issue some time back. I don't remember if it was in the KV or in the Old School section. It was a faulty timing pickup unit. If I remember correctly, the pickup was replaced and no more issues. | ||

thanks blumz.....i ran a search, but evidently was not thorough enough. i'll try again one of the techs at the shop rides without the cover to keep the temp down, but that seems kinda screwy, and i don't care for the look | ||

I have read this before and from what I remember is it melts before failure. Also I do not care what you do things will fail. You should probably keep the cover on because there are thousands out there that still have them on with out a problem. But it is up to you. Also there are wires that have to go to the sensor. Good luck. | ||

The dielectric insulator material is susceptible to heat and age. The Buell style headers may exasperate this to some extent. | ||

my dealer, hd-b of bloomington, overnighted my part from another dealer that had one in stock (they help me out whenever possible). it'll be here around noon tomorrow. i agree with you. i put 30,000 miles on the last m2, beatin' it pretty good, and never had the melties. so i'll put the new part in tomorrow and see what happens. thanks for the input | ||
