I have problem with overheating on my stock XB12SS 07.
After few 6-8km i saw blinking check engine lamp (code 14).
So i changed oil to syntetic, NGK plug sparks, engine temp sensor and still the same.
Checked oil presure (presure is biger then standard), finally i changed ECM for new one (stock IB310).
Now i can ride motocycle but fan starts working after 10km and is still working on max speed all the time :/ In the city i saw twice blinking check engine lamp for a few seconds, but when i read codes (ECMSpy) there was nothing.

Yesterday i checked ignition. It was a little advanced. No it`s ok.
But problem is still :/

Any idea?

Don't know about the SS, but on the 9s, it is easy to misroute the ECM bundle under the seat and put a micro-nick in a random wire. Worth a check.

And I'll channel Al Lighton here... and suggest the head temperature sensor might be intermittently bad. That'd explain what you are seeing as well.

Is it pinging and running bad when it says it is "hot"?

So do you propose to check all cables from ECM?

Pinging? hmm I don`t now this sound. After ride motorcycle "pinging" when temp go down, but i think it is not that ; )

When i ride about 2 - 3,5k rpm bike isn't ride smooth but lint a little bit, but after correct static timing it`s better but still not complete smooth.

Yes and no on checking the cables... when I induced this failure on my 9sx, I had just swapped from a race ECM back to a stock ECM, so I knew where I last was messing with stuff... Looking at it, I could see I routed the whole bundle over a sharp edge of a battery terminal. I know better, but there it was. I studied the cables *really* closely, just because I like really complete closure debugging problems, and sure enough, there was this near microscopic cut in the line.

So use common sense, look in there to see where it might be getting cut, and inspect there. Or just shield (that auto parts split loom plastic stuff works great and is easy to install) everything that *might* be vulnerable, and see if things get better.

Pinging, or predetonation, sounds like somebody is pounding on the inside of your motor with a ball peen hammer. And they might as well be... nasty stuff, that. Instead of a "boom" like a normal combustion cycle, it gives these rapid little "ping ping ping" like a hammer on an anvil... it has kind of a ring to it.

Hotter motors ping more. I was asking about that to get at if your bike really is overheating, or if the bike just *thinks* it is overheating due to a bad head temp sensor. These bikes don't overheat easily...

Pinging - I thing i heard this but i always thought that is "hydraulic valves" system (I heard that all HD are working loud).
Just before blinking check engine control, bike is lint.

But after correct static timing i don't have enough time to check this and now it is raining ; )
