Your understanding of the 9 versus 12 rod lengths is correct. Rod durability should be fine for a street engine. It's been done and worked very well, once the fueling issues are properly addressed.

What is an "S series engine".

Why T-Storm heads? The stock XB heads are preferable from a performance standpoint.

I'd use the XB heads; their design is far superior. Good luck and happy wrenching.

to install the 5/16 stem valves do u ream the mm guides oversize or change to the early guide ?? nailin says the mm setup doesn't like aggressive cams & to go to 5/16 stem valves

Buelldad, I 'm sorry; I don't understand your personal abbreviations and lingo. Are you building a Buell or just an engine for a custom bike or sporty or..? What are "mm guides"?

I'm no expert, but I'd think you'd want to install proper guides that are made to work with the larger valve stems.

"nailin says" Who exactly is advising you and what is their experience? Brian Nallin? Okay, then you are good to go. He won't steer you wrong. Anyone who has personally built championship winning Buell engines is probably a good source of information. Anyone with a long and storied career in high performance V-Twin engines is probably a good source. Short of that, you might want to get a second opinion. I by the way fit into neither of the categories. I just like to ride. : )
