Okay hopefully someone out there has dealt with this.....

I have an 06 XB12R with A Jardine pipe and Techlusion mapper. When I came back from riding up in the hills last weekend the bike started running on one cylinder at low throttle. When I kicked the revs up it went away and pulled strong but once the revs came back down to cruising levels one of the cylinders cut out again. I have a short band Air/Fuel meter on the bike and it went VERY rich when this happened.

I checked the plugs (which only have about 300 miles on them) and the plug wires and there didn't seem to be any problems there. When I roll on the throttle at idle it hesitates badly until it hits about 3.5k then it clears up. Could this be a timing or TPS issue? I am 100% stumped and mad that i'm missing the best riding weather you could dream of! Any help at all would be huge. Thanks!

Are you getting any trouble codes? What is your TPS value? I don't think it's the TPS. If you have ECM Spy run a diagnostic test.

Dump the Teclusion.

I'm not getting any trouble codes and I don't have the ECM cable yet to check the TPS values or run a diagnostic. But believe me if I could just run into a store here in Burbank (or LA) and buy one I would. I'll order it tonight though....

It seems to idle decently but when I roll on the throttle quickly it hesitates and then opens up. The sames goes when riding it.

@Jramsey
Do you think the Techlusion could be the cause?

The Teclusion could be flooding one of the cylinders. I would disconnect it and see how the bike runs. The ECM Spy cable will pay for it self the first time you do a TPS/AFV reset.

Unfortunately the ECMspy project has been shut down. You can't download the software from the website anymore. If anybody knows where else it can be downloaded please please please let us know.

Try ecmspy.com again. The download page looks ok to me.

ECMspy has been shut down??? Wow. I hadn't heard that...

I had the same issue a whiles back. My coil was running hot and my voltage regulator was bad. But as you may read in another one of my posts, it ended up being attributed to the voltage regulator connection.

Your bike pre-'08. Have you updated the connector? Check it out and look for signs of arcing. Check to see if your coil is overheating. If you diagnose the problem as a bad voltage regulator, change the connector and test the voltage regulator again.

@xb9sbear:

I hadn't even considered it being a problem with my voltage regulator I'll check that out today.

What's the best way to test my coil?

That's odd.... on the "about Ecmspy" page is says it's been shut down.

Maybe they're just shutting down development of new versions. It already says:
(Please note: Bikes of modelyear 2008 and later are not supported by EcmSpy!)

Does anyone have any ideas about how to test your coil? Should I just throw a voltage regulator on the outputs and see if both sides are consistent?

SWEET SWEET CONQUEST!

Okay so I figured it out and yes it all leads back to the "techlusion". Even at factory settings the unit was over fueling my bike so badly it built up an unbelievable amount of deposits. It was rapidly fouling plugs and when I inspected the cylinders with a pipe cam you could see all the buildup on the piston and ports.

So the solution was A.) ripping out the techlusion fueler with extreme prejudice B.) Ponying up the $70 bucks for the ECMspy cable from American Sport Bike and doing a solid Diagnostic, TPS reset, and AFV reset (which was at 132% BTW). It fired up like nothing ever happened , and I let it warm up to normal operating temps. I rolled on the throttle a few times and held it at 3k for a few seconds letting all the buildup blow out (which was a lot!). Now it's running perfect.

I guess the moral of the story is to never use something that seems so easy in concept that it must work, because the reality is it doesn't. Up next is to start working on the EEPROM data which I have no intentions of doing hastily. Does anyone has some resources for pre built fuel and timing tables? I'd actually like to try a race ECM flash if anyone has it.

Thanks everybody, your input is PRICELESS

Check here, there are a bunch of maps, eeprom's, and lots of info.
I believe this is the guy that wrote the tuning guide for ECMspy.

Wow, he has a lot of info.

So I burned the race ecm fuel and timing tables into my ecm with the standard EEPROM data and it works great! there is a notable difference between the stock maps and the race maps!

"there is a notable difference between the stock maps and the race maps!"

...understatement.
