I just picked up a 2000 Buell Blast for my wife's first street bike. I've been away from Harleys and Buells since leaving the industry in 2002. The bike starts and runs pretty good, but it could definitely use a little throttle response and maybe a smoother power delivery. I notice these bikes don't come with an accelerator pump either. What's a good baseline jetting for this bike? Also, what are some good mods to give it a tad more juice when my wife is ready for more power? Might be fun to pump up this little single and prowl around.........Thanks in advance.

IIRC the Blast guys are running 45/175 jets with a hi-flow filter and exhaust. You might want to post in the "Thumper" section.
Great choice in a starter bike. She should have fun learning on that bike.

Thanks for the response. It's a neat little bike actually. Simple, but perfect for her. Makes me want to find an unmolested M2 or X1 and ride with her. I think the White Lightning model was the best looking, but the seat was painful!! Last Buell I owned was a 1998 S1.......in 98! Haven't owned a street bike since 2003ish.

I just got my 99 X1 this time last year. It by far has to be the funnest bike I have ever owned. My last street bike was an 05 GSXR1000 which I turboed. I was a crazy bike but didn't put a smile on my face as the X1 does. I also have a FXSTD Duce but mainly ride her with the old lady on the back to biker meets or road trips. If you are looking for another Buell make sure to take a good look at the differences between the carb and EFI bikes. After some research I went with the X1 for the EFI and the badass look of it.

Yeah, the older X1 is another one I would consider. I was a HD Dealer Technician for 12+ years. I did a lot of performance work and dyno tuning, so the EFI vs. Carb thing isn't a big deal. I was really wishing I had my old 94 FXR back, never really liked my 2000 FXDX chassis, but the Twin Cam motor was nice. I believe an M2 or an X1 would be a better bike for the way I ride anyway. I should be looking for an 04 and earlier model if I want the tube chassis right? Do the X1s have clip ons or regular handlebars?

Last year for tubers was 2002...
The M2 is the bestest.. and Court can prove it!

The X1 has regular handlebars as does the M2.

Hey guys, I can't seem to post on the Blast knowledge vault, so I'll try here. I dialed my wife's bike in the other day, new plug, cleaned up the jetting, etc. Anyway, for 500cc it seems slow! Am I expecting too much? I was going to mod the air box next. My wife isn't a fan of loud exhausts, so I'll be fairly limited there. Not sure what any of these available mods will do. After reading the specs I see that they have a fairly short stroke. Is it possible to run a set of Sportster flywheels in this bike? That would take it to about 600cc (1/2 of a 1200). I guess I'd pop in an upgraded cam set while I was at it.

The cams will give you a little bit more bottom end as will a modded intake. The exhaust will give more top end. If your wife is ready for more power than the money would be better spent on a new bike than trying to upgrade the Blast. You just won't see that much in gains unless you do a complete rebuild. (i.e. - higher compression, tuned exhaust & intake) And that would only be for about 15hp more. Maybe it's time for a XB9S or a tuber. Either can be had for $3000 or less.

Good point. I'll let her ride it how it is until she's really ready to move up. How low is an M2L? I actually had fun riding her little scoot last night, but it was back roads and such. I'd be nervous on the highway without a lot more acceleration capability.
