Was just looking at some racing pics and started wondering about the speed humps on the suits. Some jackets come with those. What are the humps supposed to do? Do they do it? What speed do they do it at? | ||

I had the chance to test my theory... It did help with head shake at high speeds. Although I was also curious if it could in any way help prevent neck/back injuries... I had also seen some of the sponsored guys with what looked like a water bladder and drink tube stuffed in them... | ||

My 'guess' is that when hunched over the hump smooths out the air coming off the helmet and directs it over the riders body. Less turbulence = more stability. Just my uneducated guess. | ||

If you fall down on your back the hump won't allow you to hurt your neck as easy. Imagine laying down with the hump and your helmet on. Your neck would be pretty straight. Now do it without the hump. Your chin is forced to your chest. Oh yeah, goes good with a mohawk too. | ||

The humps don't offer any extra real protection, they are for aerodynamics. Some have venting holes that when in full tuck let air flow into the back area, while others do have drink bladders inside. | ||
