OK so I can see there are five grounds in the wiring diagram for the Uly. I have the 2 under the seat and the 1 behind the lights but where are the other two?
I have had speedo failure intermittently for 3000 miles. Dealer replaced VSS once and exhaust actuator (which seems to be linked to the issue)
I have sanded and cleaned and tightened the ones I know of but need help finding the others, I'm not to savvy with electrical wiring diagrams...
Oh also sanded battery terminals and tightened too!

??????????

Thanks

Well, Gnd4 and Gnd5 are both connected to the point at the lower front steering head (headlights, horn, blinker relay and front Aux ground points).
I suspect the other 3 (Gnd1, Gnd2 & Gnd 3) are connected to the two points under the seat but I don't know that for 100%.

When you say the speedo is intermittent does it stay inoperative for any length of time (long enough to pull up and fault find) or does it start operating straight away ?

Hi Rays,

Sometimes it will be off on ignition, I'll run down the road and pull over kill the engine, restart and it comes on. Sometimes it needs several stop starts.
Lately it is going out whilst I am moving.
It has to be a loose wire or bad ground I think???
My dealer is 95 miles away and I don't have transport to get it there without riding it. I will ride it as it is just the speedo but it has affected the exhaust actuator before also.

Thanks

I just looked at your profile and see you have an '08 so my information about the grounds may not be accurate as I was referring to what the '06's have.

When you say it is 'sometimes off on ignition', I'm assuming that you mean the needle doesn't sweep at power-on? If that is the case I would be starting to suspect the issue to be in the instrument cluster itself. Not unheard of as a friend of mine had pretty much the same problem on an '07 and had the cluster replaced under warranty.

If there is some sort of poor connection in the instrument cluster you could try some 'gentle' tapping of the cluster when it has failed - sounds rough but it is a valid thing to try when looking for intermittent electrical faults.
