I know we have some very savy readers, so maybe you can settle a debate. As some of you know I am getting ready to replace my stock air-box. I mentioned it to a friend who suggested the Kuryakyn Hypercharger because of its "Ram air boost". My response was two fold. First, the Hypercharger does not really have a "ram air" effect. The butterflies are purely cosmetic, and the the filter draws air from all around. The second point I made is that ram-air is at best a mixed bag. IIUC, the big problem is jetting. If it is jetted correctly for high speed, say 80 mph in 5th gear (just shy of 4000rpm on my bike) when the ram-effect would provide a boost to the air pressure at the intake, it would be off in first gear when the same rpm is producing less than half the speed. I suppose if you were going for a land speed record and all you cared about is top speed it could be a help, but it seems like nothing but trouble on a street bike.

So who is right?
