Making my first preload adjustment on the front shocks on my '03 Lightning. There is virtually no clearance around the preload adjuster nut pictured in the Owner's Manual -- not nearly enough for an open end or a box wrench, let alone an adjustable. What do you use? It even looks like a socket would be a tight fit -- and it would be a fairly huge socket; the adjustment nut is bigger then 3/4, bigger than 13/16" Can anyone tell me what tool I need to make the adjustment? And what size?

I actually just did this and it is very tight.
I used an adjustable over the top of the nut an put a screw driver thru the hole in the handle to twist. There was just enough room for about a 1/8 of a turn each time. Enough to get the wrench back on for another turn. Might have to loosen the handle bars an rotate them out of the way if this wont work.

Wow. Thanks. I looked at the nut and wondered if I was crazy! Imagine this: the manual cavalierly says "adjust with a wrench." Impossible!

Anyone else have any experience with this?

+1 on rotating the bars. After that it should be a piece of cake.
