also bought Her leftover '07blast (1st bike), that runs like crap too. so far my "buell" experience has left me less than content.......

"Runs like crap" is relative - it is running poorly or is it just the nature of an air cooled, pushrod v-twin? It will not run like an I-4, so if you expected that you should have test ridden it first. This is like driving a '69 Z-28 after driving an Acura NSX or something like that. Unrefined, stump pulling torque, not good on top speed in comparison.

ty for reply, but that didn't answer either of my two questions..........i have accepted the "crappiness", for now, while i learn a little more about these bikes.(i do know that the blast isn't a twin tho.haha) am trying to figure out if i can do a couple mods and maybe be happier with them.i want to drive American vehicles, but i am reading alot of threads on here that are making me question the reliability of these.......i was hoping they be as good as my jeep.

Hey Blak, I am new at this board as well, but I've found that if you type what you are looking for/interested in, in the search at the top of the page. It will lead you to the areas that you want to view. I will say this subject your in is a good place to look too. I can direct you to the ECMspy website and then you can do more with your bike. But as you will read on any of the pages that talk about the ECMspy, be VERY CAREFUL and back up everything! There is a lot you can do to these bikes. Simply read the different forums and you will learn. I've ridden Jap bike for years, but now that I ride my Buell (XB12X - Uly) I don't think I go back. ..Snojet..

maybe i got off to a bad start with you guys? i bought the blast for her 1st, while i was there i fell in love with the sTT, so i traded in my suzuki. what i meant by "crappy" is this: the blast pops n sputters, and leaks oil. i had to change the horribly fouled plug at 700miles to get it to run..at 500miles my check engine light was on,was popping thru the airbox, had to twist throttle to start it..they fixd it:said that temp wire came loose, causing it to dump more fuel in, fouling my plugs too! this stuff jus has me paranoid. dealer told me to not even start it unless m gona ride it 15minits,or miles, i can't remember which.he also said to ride it hard..i don't like all the rules: how to start/idle for x amount of minits/no lugging/etc......i have been riding for 24 years, had many bikes, none as tempormental as these.......right now;mine runnin great. hers runnin pretty good, kind of "sluggish" off idle, but hoping pipe/jet/filter will help that a little bit? very hard to ride mine with her without "lugging" have to stay in 2nd most of time : ( .....on the brighter side: i LOVE having 2new black buells, i love that 3 out of my 5 vehicles are American! i love the looks/ride/handling/brakes/low-end grunt of the sTT. i just want to ride them, not fix them, that's why i bought new..................now am off to start on my "possible"mods search..i think wen get new bars, gonna put the sTT bars on blast, anybody done that?

I wouldn't say that you got off to a bad start, I just think you used very vague description of runs like crap as kilroy stated. I am fairly new to the buell family but I have noticed through my own experience in the last 8000 miles on my uly that you must start the bikes and run them 2 or 3 minutes before you ride them if its chilly at all. If this is not done then sure as crap will foul the plugs. 2 sets on mine @ about an hour or so to change them, guess I'm a slow learner.
I usually pull the bike out start it up, put my jacket on, put my helmet on, gloves...etc. Get on and ride. A good indication I was told was reach down on the non exhaust side and feel the cylinder fins to see if they are warm, if so your good to go.

I can see how the check engine light could just be a one time deal, but I don't agree with the dealer telling you not to even think of riding it unless your going for 15 miles/minutes. I start mine to and from the gas stations for drinks and whatnot.. I read a lot on here about all the problems people were having, it makes you paranoid as hell, but there are 10 fold or more of people who aren't having problems.

Just a thought or two, hope I didn't go on for too long.

Shawn

Welcome to the Web. Lots of good folks and great info here. As to the Blast, monitor the Thumper forum. Someone there will, I'm sure, be able to answer any Blast questions.

As to warm-up, I use a system similar to Greenmans. Turn on the key, let the ECU do its diagnostic check and the CEL light to go out, and hit the starter. No need to touch the throttle. As the engine is idling, I check to make sure the head and tail lights are on, both brake light switches work, and the turn signals function. Put on helmet, jacket, and gloves, and ride 'easy' for the first couple of blocks. All the warm up it needs.

Blak...how cool. I just bought a leftover 07STT in March. I had an XB9SX and the mods I did to it, I did to the STT. Here's what you need to do to make it run like it should.

1. Race ECM have dealer do a search and get one ASAP. Very important. Buell no longer sells them without a racing license. Dealers still have them on the shelves.

2. D&D exhaust. I'm a dirtbike rider and love that mid range and upper rpm power, this exhaust does it.

3. American Sport bike's airbox eliminator. Get the crankcase vent tubes outta the intake tract and let it BREATHE!!

4. K&N Filter, toss the paper one, piece of garbage.

5. I put the XB9 primary gearing in the STT. It condenses the power and makes for insane acceleration. Get the XB12 gearing out of it. It will still hit over 120 but lets be realistic, who needs that kinda speed on a STT?

6. Wrap the headers with the 1" header wrap from Advance Auto. Do not use 2", to large for exhaust. Wrapping the header helps the exhaust flow faster and get rid of the heat. Getting rid of stock exhaust is the best thing you can do with Race ECM.

The Micron exhaust will give the best power compared to all the others but the D&D has a jack plate and all of the chin fairing mounts. I like the fit/finish/performance of the D&D and it sounds wicked!!

Good luck and I will post pics of mine if ya like. Goody

that's what m talkn about! thank you! am glad there are more good than bad with these bikes, caus i dont want to hate it or be paranoid to ride it.

"Goody", thanx for the info! i am in between D&D with "American Sportbike" ceramic on the header, or the micron.....didnt know about the airbox eliminator, but m into it. can i do that b4 the pipe/ecm or wud that be waste of time? i like the gearing tip too, didn't kno that either, but wud like to b able to pop it up in 2nd without having to clutch it. haven;t had it over 120 yet anyway.....

THANX! AM EXCITED ABOUT BEING A "BUELL" OWNER (x2) AGAIN!

Blak, sorry for not getting back sooner....been breaking in my STT, just rolled 500 miles.

I was going to get the Micron but didn't like the fit/finish. The chin fairing bolts on the sides and eventually it will wear out the holes on the side of the exhaust and the chin fairing will "flop" around. The D&D has the perfect fit and is heavy duty.

I like the look of the wrapped headers and I'll post pics tonight of mine. You can wrap the headers now but if you put the Micron on they or you will have to remove the exhaust to install it so it would be a waste of time. The D&D is a slipon and just looks/sounds bad ass.

The 9 gearing really wakes this bike up and condenses the power to INSANE acceleration. I can easily wheelie in 1st 2nd, 3rd hops easily. It is intimidating but its more like a 1200 cc dirt bike and thats the kind of acceleration/power that I wanted. I'll post pics tonight, this pic is before the header wrap but you can see the D&D. Goody

Custom ECM mapping for the particular exhaust you choose will offer significant improvement over even the race module. To clarify, the racer license only ECM that Goody mentions is totally different from the "Race ECM" previously offered for sale by dealerships. The racer license only module is a wide open fully programmable open loop ECM that would be a very bad choice for street use. The one that Blak suggests and the only "Race ECM" ever available from dealer stock is much the same as your stock ECM, but is optimized to work with the OEM race muffler while also eliminating certain engine safeguard measures such as overtemperature and soft rev-limit.

Suggest familiarizing yoursef with the TPS rezero.

Congrats on your new Buells.

You can still get the Race use only ECM if the dealers have them on the shelf for the 03 - 07 bikes. Buell no longer sells them without a race license but that doesn't stop the dealers from selling them if they have them.

Open loop race ECM is highly suggested with an airbox eliminator kit and D&D exhaust or race muffler. You can remapp the stock ECM to fatten up the fuel/air ratio but again, race ECM is best if you can get one. Ebay may be the last place to get one soon.

Blak, here's a pic of my STT, Goody

yeah, they replacing it, warantee. xb be down for couple weeks, bummer! oh well, am done being pisd about it. i guess it is what it is. what else can i do, right? jus bought it in october i think, so i owe too much to trade it in.....i did love my sTT, not so much now, not comfortable with it now, cause all i can think is "what's next?"

what REALLY sux is i had a sweet supermoto wit bunch of mods that never let me down. but i HAD to have this sTT, so i traded sm in, knowing that i lost $, payment went up, insurance went up, gas mileage went down......

am getn ALMOST 37mpg wit xb, my TOYOTA yaris (car!) gets 36mpg all day, with auto tranny and A/C on!!!!!!!

i have been riding for 24years: '85 honda xr80r/'86 honda trx 250r/'85 honda xl250/'87 kawasaki zl600 eliminator/'86 yamaha xt350/'87 yamaha fz600/'86 kawasaki ninja zx1000/'93 kawasaki ninja zx11/'04 kawasaki kfx700/'03 kawasaki klx400/'07 suzuki drz400sm...........not sure if i missd any?...........now '07 blast and '07 xb12sTT, more problems wit these two than any of the others, i bought the buells new and they have LESS THEN 900 MILES ON THEM.

sorry to be whining, but i hope some of you understand my pain? can't sell blast cause they have crappy resale, cant get rid of xb caus proly owe too much. all i can do is ride these out, waiting for better days.......until then, we will drive our TOYOTA yaris and corolla to work, while i save up and go back to japs, or a beamer, maybe a duck? as far as American, i will always have a JEEP to drive on the rocks!

good luck with YOUR buells, guys..you proly won't hear much from me again.........ride on.

A cracked swingarm has been reported on the forum previously for a bike near the 2006/2007 model year. Apparently they received a suspect batch from the swingarm fabricator. Not sure if there was a recall. Probably should be. .

If there is one thing that has become glaringly evident to my way of thinking, it's that Buell needs a new highly empowered, rabidly pro-active manager of quality assurance.
