This is one of those foolish things. You know it's got to be right there looking at you, but you just can't see it.
I haven't really messed with this issue because of distraction by mo bigger problems, and fully expect to hang the front end on my Buell hanging hooks and spot the problem. But, some of you learned experienced types have probably made the same mistake and might save me some head scratching time.
I've put fork tubes, bars, and clutch cable on this 02 M2. I've had it running for just a few days now,and it's grounded till I get brake parts in.
I MAY have put a mile on it so far. It seems to run great, seems to go straight. It turns left with the greatest of ease. It does not want to turn right. Really, I like left turns more than right ones anyway, and I can eventually get where I'm going, but being old and kind of lazy sometimes, I would occasionally enjoy the luxury of optional turning.
When I put the clutch cable on, I routed it differently than the old one, trying to do it as the manual described. There were no illustrations. Some of us just need a picture; words can only get me so far.
Before and after I put the front wheel on, I was concerned about the bearings, and turned and wiggled and shook the forks and all seemed fine. I KNOW I should have looked at them, but I didn't. I don't think they are the problem though.
When you turn the bar to the right, it looks like the brake line and the clutch cable are in the way, but with the bar as far as it will go, there is no substantial pressure on either. I can't see any wires or anything else holding things back. Maybe the cable and line are more of an issue than it looks like.

Have I managed to put something in the wrong place?

Dumb stuff is second nature to me. See?

It looks fairly close but I believe the clutch cable should be on the left side of the steering neck. The brake looks good to me though. This is from looking at a 2001 M2L.

Interesting. My '01 X-1 manual advises to route the cable as you have it. I did like BBert when I changed my bars, and ran the cable up the left side of the steering neck.

FWIW, if you had the rear wheel out, or the axle loose, you might want to check and see if the wheel is straight in the swingarm. Sometimes folks forget to insure the adjusters are firm against the swingarm. DAMHIK.

Akbuell your right my 1999-2000 M2 and 2002 M2/M2L books both say on the right side of the neck. I just thought it would be easier to look at the bike which I guess is wrong, but steers fine. I figured it was stock because it only has a couple thousand miles on it.

Thinking some more about your situation, esp concerning the train/car/woman/brief flight issue, you may have to break out a flat floor, some tape, a drywall square, and a plumb bob and start doing some careful measuring. Sheesh......

Hee Hee!!
I might have to run my 2X8 through the middle of it,nail it to the barn posts, and strap it to my frame again. Get out my floor jack and come-along and tweak it just a bit

Now, to make it go right you tweak it to the left right?

Apparently it was a pretty good lick, but I only flew ten or fifteen feet after I got over the car,(maybe twenty, depending on which end of me you're considering) so it couldn't have been THAT hard.

That old clutch cable was definitely on the other side, and seemed to like it there. I do feel better that you guys read the book the same way I did. When I get it up with the weight off of it, and don't see anything, I might try putting it back where it was and see how that does. It's funny to feel the resistance, but not be able to find why. But I really didn't mess with it much, I'll let you know what I do or don't figure out. I'm notorious for missing the obvious though, I just look so hard I can't see anything.
