Just bought my first buell! its a 2004 xb12s with 10000miles. didnt realize that the headers had some cracks and one of the bolts on the front header is broke off... not very happy about this however i have to move on so are the cracks safe or should i look at replacing these things? if so where is the best place to pick some up cheap? thanks

Sorry to hear that. Do you know if the bike was dropped on the right side?

There are several listed on E-Bay. I personally would not run a cracked header because of the popping that will probably occur do to the exhaust leak.

Can it the header be welded?

The "good news" is that the broken exhaust stud is a known and well developed science.

The bike was not dropped it looks like the cracks are from heat... besides the popping however it shouldn't hurt anything should it?

I would agree that you should try to replace the header. As Court said, the broken stud is a known repair, and there is much info to be had on BadWeb on this topic.

Headers can be welded, mine have been several times. Look at the entire system mounting. Typically cracks are the result of the system not being able to flex properly.

did you remove the headers yourself for the welding? is it true that you have to unbolt the motor to take them off?

I will second what Dfbutler said. I had a stud break and the pipe cracked around the O2 sensor. Had the shop weld it, and it works fine. The weld job was not pretty, but it did the job. If you get things fixed and then put it back on yourself, remember to leave everything loose until you have it all mounted then start to tighten it down.
