I just bought a '00 X-1 Millennium after selling an M2 a month ago. My M2 had a carb setup and the X-1 is fuel injected. On start up shouldn't the fuel injection give the bike enough gas to stay running until the bike is warmed up? I start the bike and have to give it gas to keep it running. The carbed bike was nice because i could choke it and just push the choke in as it warmed up. Isn't that what the fuel injection is supposed to do on it's own? Also is it possible to adjust the idle speed on the fuel injected buells? I think it is idling too low, it should be around 1k but is lower than that.

Yeah, there is an idle adjustment. On my '01 X-1, there is a cable on the left side of the motor, between the cyls that is the idle adj cable. If the bike is new to you, and you are not sure of its history, a TPS re-set may be the place to start.

I found the idle adjustment knob but i can not get it to turn. Should just the head of the knob on the cable turn or does the whole cable turn? The bike has been sitting for a while so i'm thinking the knob may be stuck. When i try to twist the knob, the whole cable wants to turn. It may need some WD-40 to loosen it up a bit.

The whole cable turns on my S3T.

It may help to slightly twist the throttle grip open when increasing the idle speed at the adjuster knob. Opening the throttle unloads throttle plate spring tension.

The whole cable turns, not just the knob on the end. I think it was just stuck from sitting idle for so long. I got the idle adjusted where it needs to be and it runs like a champ now.

On my X1 the cable is inside a plastic jacket. If the bike has been sitting for a while then the cable and the jacket are stuck together. But as you did, you can turn the cable and the jacket as one piece but for a limited range and you may not be able to do a TPS reset when you try to turn the knob all the way out. May be your cable has no jacket or the jacket is totally fused to the cable in which case you may not have nothing to worry about.
