I am new to the boards, as I am really interested in a Buell - probably the XB12Ss. Anyway, I like a bike that you can feel the pistons (I have a Roadliner now - rigid mount 1900cc's), but I am not crazy about vibration at highway speeds. I love the looks and the design of the Buell's, but am concerned that I will grow to dislike the vibration. What's the truth? Does the vibration ruin an otherwise great motorcycle? Can you ride at highway speeds without hands and feet going numb? Thanks, Paul | ||

Best bet is go to a dealer and take a demo bike for a ride. The different models will have various seating positions however the vibes should be similar. I don't find the cruising sensation to be an issue however my comparison is an older Triumph Bonnieville, a Sportster, and a Vespa! Your butt may feel different. | ||

The vibes all but disappear once you get moving. These bikes will dance across the sidewalk at idle...but they are relatively smooth once under way. | ||

I don't feel any vibration on my X1 once the tach goes over 3500 RPM. And if you spend the time tweaking the fuel maps around 950-1050 RPM, you can get rid off a significant portion of the shaking/vibration without changing the "character" of the bike. | ||

Like what Kalali says, once over about 3200 the vibs just smooth out. I sort of like the tractor feel while ideling. | ||

All the Roadliners I've been on make your butt numb. Vibration is a issue with them. The only vibration on my Buell I have a problem with is at a complete Stop. | ||

P47b, trust me on this, play with the fuel map cells right around the idle speed and you will be amazed how much smoother it can get. My bike used to literally "walk" out of my garage idling on the side stand. Now it just shakes enough to remind the bystanders that it is a Harley. | ||

I actually feel its a relaxing vibration. The vibs on my ZX6R would make me numb, when I get off the buell it feels like I just had a massage and I feel "good". | ||

I agree with Happy1, the vibration is not a problem. I have an S3T and the vibration is gone by 3k RPM. The vibes below 3K are not the kind that make your hands go num and hurt on a cool day. They are power pulses. My only concern is that the <3K power pulses will damage the plastic and bits that are bolted to the bike so I stay above 3K unless i'm in a parking lot or traffic jam. I just sold a 4 cylinder BMW that had more vibration cruising then my S3T. Traveling at 55 down a country road or on the interstate my S3t is as smooth as a person could ask for. Bruce | ||

Sorry I should have been a little more descriptive. I was referring to using the ECMSPY tuning program (which is free) to tweak the fuel maps. If you are not familiar with the program, do a search and read about it. Well worth the time. |
