Hello, new guy here. Long time Harley rider, but haven't owned a Evo Sporty or Buell before. Just got a 01 M2 Cyclone. It idles perfectly, and low speed is good.

Problem is it won't take more than about 3/4 throttle without stuttering - and no acceleration. Due to this it won't rev past about 5,000.
I've cleaned the carb good, problem remains.
Motor is supposedly stock internally with a Buell Pro-something (Supertrap?) muffler and a oval c/f air cleaner.

Question: slow jet is a 42. Main jet is a 195, needle has 2 shims, don't know if spring is stock or not (how to tell?).
My theory is the problem is limited to the main jet/needle. 195 seems fat to me? If so would this cause the symptoms?
I have an old CV with a 170 mj and stock needle. Will this be close to correct for my motor?
Thanks,

Shupe

Hopefully, someone who does have experience (Fireman Jim comes to mind) can chime in, but here goes:

First, make sure the ignition system and timing are good. A chaffed/worn/tired sparkplug wire or similar problem w/the wires to the coil from the wiring harness could be showing up at that RPM(vibration) range.

Then, find a place where you can safely run at that RPM for 5-10 sec in 4th or 5th gear. After doing so, pull the clutch in and shut off the motor w/the emerg switch on the handlebar, and stop. Pull one of the plugs. Black = rich, tan = good, white = lean.

Hope this helps. Dave

You should have a 45 for the pilot, uncork the idle set screw and set it to about 2 1/2 turns out. Procedure for this is in the Knowledge Vault if you are unsure how to do it.
A 42 is too lean, this will cause the infamous "Keihn Cough".
The 195 main is about right. Might need to drop to a 190 or 185 depending on where you are and how you drive. ( I just saw that you at about sea level, 195 should be pretty close.)

Better to be on the fat side, less chance of holing a piston...

How thick are the shims under the needle? The conventional wisdom is about .050 total.

If you are having problems at the upper end, I suspect an additonal problem(s) elswhere.
As mentioned above, check wiring for loose connecions. It's possible that it's bad plugs and or wires. I've also seen a failing coil do the same thing.
Remember that these are dual fire, not single. The plugs should be 10R12's.

Also check for intake leaks. The intake to head seals usually need replacing every 2-3 years. If they have never been changed, they are leaking.

Did you reuse the carb to intake boot? That should also be replaced. Less then $15 for all three seals.
Use Silglyde on the intake seals. They will last longer..

Hey everybody. I have an 00 M2 cyclone. I have a Vans and Heins exhaust, and just got the mikuni carb and forcewinder. I installed it yesterday and did not have time to ride it but when I started it up it had a major flat spot at the bottom. I did not tune the carb at all and did the job a little fast. Any suggestions? Also when I bought the forcewinder the guy said I had to use all these adapters to hook it but it seemed to me it when from the carb to an adapter to the bracket to the filter, does that seem right? With all the pcs the stock airbox used, it is confusing.
