Starts then dies- slow jet plugged? I just cleaned the thing thoroughly. Slide seems to work OK, put '88 needle, no shims, in and drilled the second hole to .109"-quicker response plus #195 jet, stock, and new #45 main (Force + Bad dog pipes). My theory is intake Rubber- had lots of problems installing it- can intake leak do this? Haven't adjusted cables yet. Also the tiny O-ring in the accelerator pump- its' snug but got it at auto parts store-it died when I throttled it after about 2-3 seconds. I'll try float bowl off first and clean the slow air jet first, then if no- check intake gasket? 2000 M2.

Are you playing around with (modding) the stock carb?

Hey, it runs but rough. OK, what areas of throttle control does rough mean?

Does it idle OK but low speed acceleration is choppy?

Is low to medium cruising speed smooth or rough?

Is acceleration from medium speed to top speed choppy (cuts in and out) or smooth?

What is so special about the '88 needle, or is it the needle jet? Which is it, needle or jet? If it is a needle, what is the number stamped on it?

Remember, when working on carburetors (or any other engine mod), change only one thing at a time to try to figure out what the effect the mod is doing, otherwise you're dealing with a clusterf@#k situation.: )

Can't seem to keep it running long enough to find out-maybe 30 seconds of choke and playing with the throttle, etc.On the other hand may not be warm enough to 'appreciate'. It was only recently that I was told to change one thing at a time- perhaps I should work backwards? If so, so as to avoid taking the whole thing apart and putting nearly all of it back together again- which would you change back to normal first? The Needle? The #45 main jet? A new slide- since I drilled it out to .109" already? I can't believe it runs so poorly, as God is my witness I made numerous notes and was ever so careful, I treated all of those freaking little parts like they were made out of gold, OOH, I'm so pissed off now. But please suggest.

The more I have googled the more that I find out, suddenly, that fine tuning, in my case any form of tuning what so ever, is a form of "science, art and intuition"- great, just what I need, a mystical conundrum.
