I have only had the bike a few months and want to change the oil since it is down for other repairs. I have noticed on this site that there are up to 3 different places to change the oil. Can someone fill me in on what to do? I am in contact with someone to get the service manual so please hold any "get the service manual" comments

There is a plug at the end of a hose near the back of the bike by the back tire (left side IIRC when sitting on the bike). If you pull the plug out you will drain the ENGINE oil. Fill it back up into the tank under the seat. I believe 2 1/2 quarts. Get the oil hot first before draining or it will take forever and a day to drain out.

Primary / tranny fluid is drained via the drain plug under the crankcase. You may have to remove the muffler to get at it. This fluid is refilled by removing the derby cover and filling thru the opening, up to the bottom of the clutch pack. Right at 1 quart to get to that level.

I use SYN3 in both locations. There are a thousand opinions here on what oil to use, do a search and read away......

Thanks for the help kilroy. I haven't looked yet but remove the muffler for an oil change? Seems pretty inconvienant! I have a force exhaust so maybe I will get lucky? Also you referenced a derby cover? is that the clutch cover on the left side of the engine or the other circular cover on the right side?

Derby cover = Clutch cover
I always remove the muffler. No big deal. Make sure the bike is level when you fill up the primary. It helps if it's on stands when you remove the muffler. More wiggle room.

If your muffler is small enough or positioned correctly, you could possibly use a makeshift "funnel" out of cardboard to direct the oil over your muffler and into a container. Or you could just let it pour over the muffler (not a hot muffler) and just clean it up real good when you're done.

when you remove the muffler you can dent the aria where the drain plug comes out just enough to get the drain plug in and out the next time you change it. I also used a spacer on the back mount of the muffler to get some more clearance. No more removal to change fluid. Thank you to the Tec that showed me this.
