Hi everyone!, following the thread I started in 11/5/2008, I have new news

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?47623/410750

The RPM hanging at 2k before dropping to 1050 when the engine is fully warms up was caused by leaking intake gaskets. Replaced them by the james blue seals and they works very fine, but I have not solved The other idling issue in hot;
When the engine is fully warmed up she wants to idle really low Bounces around 6-700 sometimes as low as 500 then the bike stalls, dies soon, it also has small backfires through exhaust, but always all happens at idle and when the engine is fully warmed up (Always from 210 degrees centigrades and on). After I ride again for maybe 10 minutes the idle goes back to normal(1050), I know those type of problems are often the most difficult to find, I tried several things and no luck so far, it's puzzling. I'm starting to think might to be a CPS issue when hot.

One other thing else, I have done several compression test for quite a while (eight months) and the readings were entirely different (120 psi front cylinder and 150 psi the rear cylinder, later 127 psi front and 145 psi rear cylinder, later 148 psi front and 145 rear and so on, does that make sense?, it's not normal or yes, I don't know, Might to be this the main problem?....., Could anything else be causing this problem?.

P.S. My X1 has 45.000 miles on it.

Any hints or tips would be gratefully appreciated!

Sounds to me as if the IAT get's warmed up and signals a wrong air temperature. Should not occur while ridden. Did you try to move it to a place not affected by engine heat, as recommeded before?

Should not occur while ridden,

Ok!, it not occur while ridden, the bike runs very well while driving.

But what is really weird is since 1999 I'm owner of X1 and never before I have had this issue.

I have a C.F. Oval Air Cleaner from American Sport Bike for five years ago and neither never before I had this problem.

I read about IAT issue from you in here, but I tried unplug it for a while when engine is warmed up and with not luck, the idle still goes down, very low, it made no change. I’m wondering what is going on here.

As for the IAT sensor, I haven't moved it yet. I can not find the right place to place it.

Thanks for the input Gunter.

Regards.

Try a log with ecmspy when running bad and well and compare air temp/air temp correction, if this differs. If not, then there must be another reason, maybe automatic timing adjustment during idle.

I'll check it out when I have a moment free, the time is my big enemy all the time and will let you know.

Once again thanks for the info.

One more question,
lately I've noticed that the engine temperature is higher than normal and I do not know if this is related to the ignition timing adjustment. After ride for ten minutes approximately plugged in the ECMSPY and looked at the engine temp sensor. Was reading 215 degrees just for that short jaunt..., I don't think that the ETS is the culprit because when I say hot, the heat from the engine running for ten minutes was hotter than ever, for this reason I ask if the timing adjustment is related to the engine temperature.

P.S. Now the ambient temperature in the area where I live is from 8 to 14 degrees.

Thanks in advance.

You can observe your timing in real time via ECMSPY. One other approach you might want to consider is load race ECM fuel and timing maps onto your ECM and see if that makes a difference. Needless to say, you can always go back to your current maps if you save them before making any changes.

Bombardier:

I replaced ETS three months ago and watched it in ECMSPY and was worked well, idling problem is still there. When heated engine burns.

Kalali:

In either Stock ECM turned into race and Race ECM are same signs and conditions of the engine's performance.

I need to know if the timing adjustment is related to the engine temperature.I hate to have start to taking things apart for solve a issue

Thank you one and all for the input.

I have heat shielded the cable that runs from the ets tothe wiring loom with plug wire shield. It also extends over the outer body of the sensor to protect it from heat radiating on it from the head.

Also have a four wire nb o2 sensor installed with wiring shielded as well.

Have had no hanging idle issues since.

Ets controls both injector pulse width and ignition timing.

Have you changed the fuel filter and checked the fuel pressure?

From the schematic on an XB the fuel filter is after the pressure regulator so a less than perfect filter will lower your fuel flow.

Not sure if it arranged the same on an X1.

I need to know if the timing adjustment is related to the engine temperature.

Can't tell for tubers, but XB adjust timing vs. ET only in idle. As far as I know.

EDIT: http://www.ecmspy.com/cgi-bin/detail.cgi?ecm=6&offset=344

Might be easiest if you mail me your eeprom (.epr file), then I could have a look if there's something similar in a tuber's ecm.

Regards,
Gunter

Thanks to whoever had responded on here for any info that they tried to help me with. I appreciate it.

I would especially like to thank to Gunter for sharing his experience with all buellers of the world and for taking his time adjusting the eeprom I sent to him.

I let you know how goes adjustment of the Eeprom when I loading it to the bike. I suppose it will be ready over the course of the next week.

Regards.

Well, loaded the Eeprom, the bike runs better in high RPM ( Gunter changed me the value 170º and 210º to 100% in Cold Start Enrichment and the bike runs better in hot.

With regards the low idle problem in hot it made no any change and the poor idle in hot and cold still there. To get moving I have to rev a little higher than normal. After riding steady without idling for a few minutes the bike seems to run ok until you try to let it idle. Then it will die in about 10 seconds. Fuel pump suspect.

I ordered a new Fuel Pump, when installed I'll post the results.

Regards.

Well, after take a Fuel Pressure Test, it ended up being a Fuel Pump toasted.

I also have already to moved the IAT Sensor to another position, behind the windshield, over the headlamp, bolted on an aluminum plate. Now, I don't think it gets
hot up from the exhaust or the engine and it won't send a wrong signal to the ECM.

I don't have any pics yet, but As soon as I can get pics I will post them on here.

Regards.

The AIT is mounted inside the aircleaner so it remains clean( except from all the oil it gets).

Being out in the breeze may cause you more grief.

Perhaps heat shielding will keep it cool and protected whilst still inside the aircleaner wher it will be safe?

Thanks Bombardier for your ideas.

The last week I took a log running at idle for awhile(when the engine was fully warmed-up, about 200ºc.), the air temperature was 12°C. in where I live and the air temperature was shown in ECMSPY as 48-50°C , which can't be true, as the air temperature was 12 °C., sending a wrong signal to the ECM. The effect is that the fuel is reduced now, because hot air is less dense than cold air, but as the air was cold in reality, the mixture was too lean.
The IAT showed too much degrees of difference (400% more than on real)."Yeah, There are too much difference".

The X1 has not so problem if the IAT sensor is placed at his stock position, remaining protected from heat engine or exhaust, but if you installs a Aftermarket air cleaner as me (C.F. Oval Air Cleaner& KN filter element) or such as a Force Winder, then the the air temperature sensor is either badly placed, getting heat from engine or some hot air (from the exhaust or the engine) flows along the Air Temperature Sensor and make him send a wrong signal to ECM.

Now, the engine has a completely different behavior, works much better when is warmed up

As for the clean for IAT no problem so is placed now it's fairly protected from the hot air and don't think it gets much dirty than on the stock position

Also I switched on idle closed loop in the system configuration of the ECMSPY. If the Idle is closed loop, it should even compensate for some error in TPS.

Pics of the new position:

Thanks to whoever had responded on here for any info that they tried to help me with I appreciate it.
