I have a 99 m2 and i just changed the gaskets on the rear cylinder(jug up) due to an oil leak. The bike ran fine for about 3 minutes and now it backfires if i rev it past 3500-4000 rpms. I cant test drive it cause my chain isnt here yet. Just looking for some ideas on what it might be.

Is this a backfire thru the carb, or popping of the exhaust on decel?

If exhaust is popping, your on the right track with exhaust gaskets. Did you use RTV silicone when you installed the V&H on your header?

If it coming out the carb, did you at anytime move the timing plate? Did you re-connect the Voes vacuum line?

Its popping out of the exhaust, the V&H was on there with no issues before. Gotta wait until tomorrow for the exhaust gaskets cause my local dealer was closed for a week. I double checked all my connections, hoses, wires, screws, bolts... everything. Im gunna do the plugs too, just do it all at the same time to eliminate any possibilities!! Thanks again for all the help.

Sounds like reversion.

Air coming back up the exhaust and igniting unburnt fuel.

I would go with Tim on the RTV sealant for the connections first.
