Do Millennium cylinders have steel liners? The reason I'm asking is because I placed a magnet on the inner bore of one(1250 kit) I bought from Nallin and it stuck!  | ||

That's to do with the steel content used in the cylinder coating I believe. This is also true of stainless steel braided line. Some have a high steel content - are magnetic and will corrode. In the case of braided line - don't say I didn't warn you! Rocket  | ||

I find it really interesting that the "Nickel Silicon Carbide" has a iron component in a thick enough coating for me to feel a magnet sticking . | ||

I found this.... "Nickel(metal) is one of the few elements that produce a magnetic field; others are iron, cobalt, and some of the rare earth metals, gadolinium, neodymium, etc. Nickels(coins) are actually made of an alloy that consists of 25% nickel and 75% copper. While true that magnets will lose their magnetism (sometimes) when dropped, or compressed, it is more likely that it is the nickel's (the coin) composition that is preventing it from being picked up by a magnet" Well... you learn something everyday. High performance Millennium cylinders don't fit with high performance carbs! The cylinder fins interfere with the Mikuni(but not the stock CV) ,I'll have to grind a bunch of cylinder fin away, wished I'd known about it before hand. | ||

Jim, I have Milleniums on mine with a Mikuni. I had no problems with clearance. Is it because there's extra pipework on your Mikuni for the turbo? | ||

Peter, The carb float bowl screws hit the top fins. I'll have to take off about an inch of fin on both cylinders. | ||

If anyone buys a set of these cylinders from a shop and is running a Mikuni flat slide it would alot better to do the grinding with the cylinders NOT assembled. What a mess! I had to grind an 1/2 inch off the corner of the top fin ,less off the two below it, just taper the cuts down and you should be OK. | ||

i just got the 1250 kit this past fall and i plan on doing a mikuni, is yours the hsr42(easy kit, lol)? anyway thanks for the install heads-up. besides the alteration, how do you like the kit? i have about 700 miles on mine not quite broken in, i'm excited to see how well it performs under abuse! what other mods do you have, is your bike a cyclone? thanks, tripp | ||

tripp, i put the 1250 millennium cylinders on my 99 m-2. i am also running the 42 mikuni and i also had to take some material off of a couple of fins. not to big a job. dremel tool does it easily. to me that is part of building a hot rod! i am happy with the millenniums and they seemed to have survived a 98 degree day in stop and go traffic last summer. enjoy! | ||

Trip, I have not run the bike yet, its a S1 turbo. I wanted cast iron Axtell's ,but I was talked out of them.I had a big defect in the bore of one of the Millennium's , the shop I bought them from told me to live with it or go to the manufacturer(Millennium) . I talked Millennium into replacing it. When they saw it they agreed that it was unacceptable. Millennium treated me very well, considering.The interference's should have been conveyed to me.Too bad nothing was said to me about it. I would have fixed them before final assembly ,disaasembled and cleaned everything. It would have been much easier. | ||

well, that's good news i'm happy to hear their durable in the heat philip, as i like to do those charity bike runs on occasion, and it's also great to hear of a company that stands behind it's product after the sale jim, thanks for replying to my post! i'll be interested to hear how fast that turbo s1 goes! |
