My 2000 does this occasionally after a steady run and then taking off from a stop. No idea why. I can usually catch it before it dies, but it has cut out on me completely a couple of times. Kind of dangerous with people running up your behind when the light changes. I also have the V&H and race E.C.M.

Water in the tank maybe? I had the same thing happen to me minus the check engine light. I finally took the tank off and drained the gas and that's when I found the water. I now tape up the gas cap when washing it and haven't had a problem in 2 years.

5liter,
I never thought to try and tie it into when I have washed my bike. Good idea with the taping. I will try it many months from now when the snow disappears.

Mine used to sit outside when I was at work. It rained often so I probably picked up some then. I also put a new O-ring on the gas cap to help keep water out. I'm retired now so the bike doesn't sit out too often.

Could also be gas tank venting is blocked. The tank vent valves have been known to stick shut, thus temporarily creating a vacuum in the tank and hindering fuel flow. If so, try opening the gas cap and see if the bike instantly recovers.
