I'm thinking about converting my 88" S1 over to a chain drive. Can anyone please point me in the right direction as to parts, cost, size of chain (520, 530), ease of install, etc. Does anyone sell a "turn key" chain kit for the S1? I didn't really see too much in the KV. Thanks! Lee

yeah, i broke an XB 12 belt over the weekend. 350 miles from home, wife was not pleased. so i want to start building a chain drive set. it looks as though the early evo sportster front sprocket might fit the output shaft. not yet sure how to fashion a tensioner. they race these bikes, so some one is running chain drive some where.

Zippers Performance has everything you would need for the conversion (ask for Maura). I drag race using 520 setup and have never had a problem. The Pro-Stock folks use 530 with over 250 HP so I think it is overkill and just more added weight and reciprocating mass for most applications.

On the XB's it is an extensive modification to the swingarm and expensive...

i am presently involved in a NON-EXTENSIVE chain drive setup on my XB12. So far i have a front 21 tooth sprocket, a rear 50 tooth, and a Tsubaki 530 sigma chain. i went with the 530 chain not for strength, but because the sprockets will last a lot longer. now working on a tensioning device. need a wheel to go in place of the stock belt pulley

Ever find a Sprocket for that belt pulley (Tensioner)? How hard was it to remove that front sprocket? What do you recommend?

the front sprockets haven't been that hard to remove, once I realized they were left handed threads.

I've also found an alternative for an idler...made a discovery while at the local Tractor Supply store which conveniently stocks sprockets with bearings already pressed in. Not sure of the part numbers but you can PM me if needed.

Haven't been able to test this for many miles as it's only on my stuntbike right now...but I plan on converting my '06 12R to a chain maybe next winter, or if my belt breaks this season...

BTW, I'm running a 70 tooth rear and 20 tooth front sprocket on my stuntbike...not recommended for street riding...DUH!

I topped out my bike on the street one day at about 70mph! HA!
