Hi,

I'm looking to chrome the heat shield on my header. My Harley/Buell dealer said it can only be chromed if it doesn't have a ceramic type coating that was added to later year heat shields--he said they're too thick to chrome. He isn't sure what year they switched over from just a 16 gauge piece of metal to the metal with the ceramic coating on the inside. My S1's a '98. Any idea which one I have? It's hard to tell by looking at it without having something (the other one) to compare it to.

Thanks

Hey Josh,

Looks nice but I'm having the header coated white by Swain Tech. My S1 is Nuclear Blue and Molten Orange with white accents here and there, with the remainder of the bits in chrome and carbon fiber. Any thoughts on that heat shield since you've already been down that road?

Thanks

Get your powder coater to do a different color?
I haven't had anything chromed and I didn't know there was a ceramic-type coating on some shields so I can't help much. Sounds good tho, be sure to post pics.

Something else to consider: It's my understanding that the early shields were stainless, which will polish up nice. Don't know specifics of years, but I believe the '97's and maybe '98's.
