Trying to get the 98 S1W up and running and find that the good old stealer wants $222 for a battery.......you've got to be kidding me

Anyone have a suggestion for replacing my battery ??

I'm hoping there are some decent alternatives out there and will cruise the net but figured someone here has already been down this road.

First my cable debacle now this.....should of stayed in bed today

Put one in my K100 BMW 2 years ago.

After It was crashed this year I now have it in my ride on mower.

I have used these batteries extensively whilst in the Aust Army and have never had a problem with them.

Tougher than cereal biscuits!

thank you sir, sorry about the K100, I had an 85 that treated me well for a couple hundred thousand miles......I miss that bike.

I believe I'll try one of these batteries, once again thanks for the info.

I've had one in my S3T now for 2 years. It's a little shorter than the stock battery so I have a shim beneath the battery to bring it up a little.

yes they give instructions to put a 1/4" shim under it so it doesn't rest on the lip of the battery tray.

they say they will last 6 to 10 years so I'm ordering one

well first they sent me the wrong battery and now this battery doesn't fit.

I fabbed the shim so the height is o.k. but it is so wide the hold down strap will not reach.

the only way to secure it that I can see is to use some thick zipties around the battery tray........this sucks.

this is probably a real good battery but not being able to secure it properly is a "DO NOT BUY" in my opinion.

I find it hard to believe these people call this a direct replacement for my bike.

5liter, how did you secure your battery ??? the S3 battery tray is probably different the way this is going.

looking at the directions again perhaps they wish for the battery to be on its side with the negative terminal at the top and the positive at the bottom ???? seems it would be too tall to fit this way but I'll check it out and report back

Chris. My battery strap fit the battery. Did you get the metal clad battery?

thank you sir, your tray is definitely different than mine. many kudos to you for the pics, and yes I got the metal clad battery.

I was able to install it with the negative terminal up under the seat and the positive at the bottom but only after tearing all the body work off and rearranging some harnesses and relays

looks like I will need to fab some more shims to get it to sit correctly where the strap won't become deformed upon tightening.

this is a major PITA that really shouldn't be.....if your battery won't fit without all this hassle....don't advertise it as a replacement.
