The panel of my 2006 Uly, makes several check list with the bike in operation. Everything, trip 1, trip 2, clock turns to zero, except the total odometer. Does not affect the operation of the motorcycle. Itīs more common with cold engine. Someone has had this problem? Whatīs going on?

Could be a loose battery terminal.

Check the wiring behind the ecm. I had mine apart yesterday searching for the 'miss' gremlin and found that the ecm had chaffed on the instrument panel wiring and worn through the insulation on two of them.

The instrument panel has a back-up +12 volts supplied when the ignition switch is off. This back-up voltage is required to allow the memory to retain the clock, tripmeters and low fuel meter settings.
These settings are lost if the battery is disconnected or the battery voltage drops to a very low level (I don't know the actual level).

The first question is - 'does the bike struggle to start?' If so, this could be dragging the battery voltage very low during the start cycle:

1. Poor battery connections - remove and clean both positive and negative terminals. There have been reports of some XB12X's having battery terminal bolts that were a little too long and there were bottoming out and appearing to give a firm connection. Try a flat washer fitted to the battery bolts to space them out a little.
2. Poor earth (frame) connection for the negative lead - clean and tighten.
3. Poor battery - can you swap in a known good battery?

The other less common issue seen on some of the early XB12X's was a broken splice in the loom (where it passes through the loom guide at the front of the steering head). This splice happens to be where the backup power wire for the instrument cluster joins the main power wire going to the ignition switch. I have had this problem and repaired it successfully many Km's ago. In my case the problem could be introduced by moving the handlebars from lock to lock with the ignition switch off. Intermittently, the speedo and tach 'sweep' back and forth - this is an indication of the back-up power wire 'breaking' and 'making' again.
This photo shows how I repaired this wire and where the break was in the loom. Originally the splice looked like the heat-shrink covered join in the brown wires to the right of the repair (R/H blinker circuit which can have the same failure).

Hopefully one of these suggestions will fix your problem. Please feel free to PM me if you do have the loom issue and need any further information - if you are still under warranty you should be able to get that repaired by your dealer.

There is just one thing to say: THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Was a broken earth connection. I fixed and the problem has gone.
If you need something from Brazil, just let me know.

Thx

Thanks guys first and foremost!! I had a broken red wire leading to the dash memory that was causing tons of grief over the last month. It has been really annoying not being able to plan fuel stops and fueling all too frequently. The break was under the heat shrink and looked to be fine until I dug deeper. I split the shrink tubing with an industrial cutter and put some heat on it from a heat gun. As soon as the tubing lifted off, SO DID THE SMALL WIRE! No connection at all. I added a 2" section of wire, soldered it and put on some new heat shrink. Good as new until the next splice breaks at the flex point. Who's bright idea was it to put non-flexible solder splices right at the flex point?!
