what is the difference in the 20w50 aircooled twin mobile-one, and the regular 15w50 (etc.) mobile-one car oil? thanks, ed | ||

$4.  You get a great oil for that $8 Mobil 1 VTwin. It has a fantastic additive package for Harleys. If it's necessary is another question. I just run "normal" full synthetic 20w50. | ||

Made for air cooled twins. Standard Mobil 1 is not. Additive pack is different. Higher Flash Point for Vtwin - 270 vs 229 No Phosphorus vs .1 Less Sulphated Ash 1.0 vs 1.4 Higher viscosity which is to be expected as the oils are different - 15w-50 vs 20w-50 (Message edited by Bombardier on September 30, 2008) | ||

Oh yeah, forgot, thanks Jim! I run Castrol Syntec, which is advertised as true 20w50 full synthetic. But it acts more like a 15w50 in my bike, though it works fine. | ||

The difference is a marketing ploy! If it makes you sleep better then get it, but your Buell isn't going to notice. Run a sample to Blackstone and see for yourself if you want data over rumors... | ||

Sloppy, I am curious as to what data Blackstone can provide. Is this data post use of oil or new oil? If it is post use have the use conditions for the two oils been replicated exactly? | ||

It's post use. What they can tell you is if the oil is in good shape and if it contains excessive wear material. | ||

i guess i will stick with the 15w50. it is the only thing that has ever been in it. i just saw the v-twin oil recently at an advance auto, then at the local honda dealer, and wondered what the difference was. thanks for the help! |
