Broke an engine mounting bolt and standard X! front engine mount last year. Used a new bolt set and a NRHS billet mount. Yesterday, at the start of a long trip I felt a slight vibration, stopped and found the left hand bolt head gone and the right hand boss had cracked. The NRHS mount is still in one piece. I'll begin the strip down tomorrow and post pictures as I go. I thought my problems were over when I went to the billet mount. I guess the mount being stronger, it was the boss which took the fall. ouch sorry for ur problem. if the boss is cracked then ull need to replace the head. i think unless u can weld the aluminum. while ur in there u might as well make the hole deeper so u have more bolt in the head. i think its a good way to avoid this problem. | ||||

This is the first time I've heard of a bolt failure with an NRHS front mount. Now... I'm worried about this failure mode again. | ||||

Yeah, me too DJ. Al at American Sport Bike said that he hadn't heard of another breakage with the NRHS mount either. I think I'll replace the two head bolts once a year or so, just to be sure. | ||||

I think I may know what caused this. When the original mount failed, it caused wear on the head bosses. I saw it on my M2 head but didn't have a bolt failure. You can also see wear on the mount. The faying surfaces of the mount and head get worn so that they are no longer flat. I could actually see a bit of a convex surface on the head boss and also on the mount. Picture a washer bent over a pipe as an exagerated example. The bent part was at the top and bottom. This makes sense as the motor rocks front to back. When I installed the NRHS mount, I made sure the head bosses were completely flat. No problems so far. This is the first time I've every heard of bolt breakage with the NRHS mount. | ||||

Brad, I'd guess you're right. Those surfaces being flat and in the same plane is critical. I've never had a customer report a failure with the NRHS mount. If you ever have the failure and DON'T replace the stock mount, the next failure usually isn't long in coming. The mount tweaks ever so slightly, making the mount surfaces not parallel. Al | ||||

Hey folks, just had my mount break and the left hand bolt snapped (not sure which went first, the bolt?). I'm assuming the mount on the americansportbike site is the NRHS mount? Is there any particular cause of the failures? My bike is an '02 X1 with 30,000km's, and I'm pretty gentle with it, no wheelies etc (because I'm not very good at wheelies!). A friends '01 X1 had the same failure at about the same km's or a little more. We have pretty rough roads around here though, would that contribute? chili | ||||

I think the cause is ;- you arn't supposed to hang the friggin sporty engine off the headsteady mounting. My mount snapped last spring,at around 26000miles,there is a lot of evidence from the German web site that radial forces on the mounting bolts cause fatigue,cured by fitting a link from the top stabiliser mount to the top of the front isolater/ hanger bolt ( stenzil strutt ) Lee | ||||

My front engine mount just broke on my 2009. Or just finally noticed it today it only has 3,200 miles on it would this sort of thing be covered under warranty? | ||||

My friend has a 2006 Blast and the four bolts that hold the rear of the engine up snapped and the engine dropped. It appears the two on the bottom went first due to the rust. ANY IDEAS WHY?? Has anyone seen this before? ck out the photos. I can be reached at 808-372-9451. Larry
