I would recommend a full synthetic 20w50 with the diesel rating.

A non synthetic oil in an air cooled motor breaks down pretty quickly even when things are working right.

I think Valvoline makes just such a beast, and it used to be a good price. I used it in my M2 with good luck, but I have not seen it sold around here for a long time.
