i have a 96 s1, i will be eliminating the housing for the kill switch and just use the key, for the starter i relocated a momentary switch and it works , is the kill switch on the housing necessary? or could i just use the key to turn on/off the bike?

Real necessary when you have to shut it down in a hurry after coming off.

Yeah - I would leave it on. You hopefully will never need it, but you will be damm glad you have it if you do........

To answer your question--No, the kill switch is not necessary; you can use the key to turn bike on/off.
Most folks like to have a kill switch, me included, but it is not a necessity.

I've relocated the kill switch to a dash mount and eliminated the entire starter circuit with one of those solenoid mounted switches. You just have to be real aware of that header when it's hot.

It's nice to have the kill switch. My ignition is relocated to a hard to reach area so it's very necessary.
