Took a 2009 XT for a 100 mi ride today. Loved it. I plan on purchasing an XT and riding to Alaska. One concern I have is if a tire had to be replaced or repaired in a remote area. Most bikes can be equipped with a center stand but I don't see any way to mount a center stand on an XT because of the muffler location. I was originally planning on doing the trip on a GS but the XT is liter and has less things to go wrong. The XT has all the power of a GS and runs every bit as smooth. I own a BMW R1200RT so I have knowledge of both bikes.

To Alaska sounds great. I have similar plans for my Uly.

It is a good question. I think the plan is to patch a flat with a plug and ride to better facilities for tire replacement. There is a skid-plate available for the Uly from Tourtech. It might be possible to jack that up.

I am not an experienced long distance rider so these are good things to explore.

The question I have is related to the belt which can be taken along as a spare. How does one remove the rear wheel to allow for belt replacement along the road. I guess this might be done with the bike laid on it's side allowing the axle to be partially removed to move the wheel forward enough to get the replacement belt installed.

Alchemy our Uly's have jaking points built into the mufflers. The muffler has little arows that show where to put the jack when jacking the bike up so you do not need the tourtech bash plate.

There is no center stand available for the Uly. You either have to jack it up using the aforementioned jacking points on the muffler or lay it on its side.
