I have a 98 s1w, the motor stablizer mount (the 2 heim joint ends) has a rubber insert in it. I want to change to a nice chrome Heim end to replace it.

The question is, is the rubber there for just less vibration or does it have a more significant role?

I believe that without the rubber it'd over-stress the bolts.

Also you would need to look at what the mount is bolted to.

The vibrations will be transferred to this area and it may well be not designed for this.

This type of thing was experienced by the first K100 BMW's as they had a solidly mounted engine. To reduce vibrations on the high tensile frame shims were supposed to be used when bolting the engine up tight. If this was not done the short term problem was vibration. The long term was frame fatigue. The flat four of the BMW has a high frequency vibration at about 4000rpm but is relatively smooth everywhere else. The sportster motor vibrates everywhere.

I would not solid mount this for a road bike. For a track/race bike maybe.
