Borrowed a torque wrench from someone to tighten the axles up after putting new tires on. Set the thing for 40 ft pounds per the manual. The wrench must be messed up because my axle broke. The right side turns freely. Any ideas on how to get the pieces out and recommended things to do afterwards? | ||

Ok, got the axle pieces out. What a heart breaker, was really hoping to ride next week. Does anyone have the part number for a new front axle for an 06 Uly and what its going to cost me? Is it possible I also damaged the bearings? (Message edited by kurbennett on August 02, 2008) | ||

I doubt if you dammaged the bearings. And maybe there is an online parts book here somewhere. Also I really believe in torque specs but after I changed the rocker gaskets on my M2 and breaking 3 bolts I said to hell with them and just tightened them by feel. And I have 3 torque wrenchs. One bar type (ft.lbs.) two click type (one ft.lbs. and one in.lbs.). That was 3500 mi. ago. | ||

Thanks Bert, Found the part number and ordered from Chicago Harley. Hopefully it wont be too long. Normally I do them by feel as well but really wanted the axles to spec. I can get a torque wrench that works in both directions so when the axle comes in I should be set. | ||

Yea I just tighten it till I pass some gas and call it good. I hate to go much tighter than that. (Just kidding) |
