I've got an XB12Ss and the engine fins has some discoloration going on and I'd like to clean it up but don't know what to use.  | ||

I've always used Simple Green. Spray it on, let it sit and spray it off with a good hosing. Foaming engine cleaner will peel the paint on the fins (at least it did on mine) | ||

I have heard the same about simple green. I tried it on mine and it worked great! | ||

I realize this is a little old but I've used Castrol Super Clean on my dirtbike | ||

Simple Green is a good product, however to het the results that Ineeded to clean, I left it on mebe 10-15 minuates, and got runs on my wheels. M2 Cyclone, and in the primary. This is only my experiance, and granted I may have left it on too long. So in the neverending search for a perfect, hi-potency cleaner, and while at Auto Zone "any large auto parts store" I spotted GUNK CITRUS. Now knowing the cleaning charictoristics of citric acid, I supposed it to be a potent cleaner without the "etching metal" charictoristics of the other types I had tried, which consisted of "mean green", "purple stuff", and "simple green". All left streaks, even when rinsed very quickly afterwards, but the "GUNK CITRUS" left no apparent stains or streaks, and was sufficently strong enough to eat the dirt very well, honestly I hit the bike 3 seperate times to get an imaculate clean, all in about 45 minuates total. I can't praise the Gunk enough, well thats my experiance cleaning Buell's. | ||

This is nice info. I'll give the GUNK a try. I have used "purple stuff" before. It has an amazing ability to cut through oil and grease. It actually works better than brake cleaner for that. But it will tarnish aluminum, so there are limited places it can be used on an XB. |
