I need to replace my pulley tensioner bearing but i do not have a maintenance manual yet for my 2002 M2. I have taken the cover for the pulley off and have taken the tension out of the belt by loosening the tension adjustment nuts on the rear axle assembly. I have also taken the hex bolts out of the pulley itself.

I'm not sure where to go from here to actually take the pulley off? I'm not motorcycle mechanic but general engineering principals say there are only a few ways to attach a pulley to a shaft. Is there some sort of keyway that holds it on? Is there a set screw that holds the pulley on? I don't want to just start prying on it and damage something.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the front pulley for the drive belt has a large nut that is held in place by a lockplate and 2 screws. Remove the 2 screws and the lockplate, then unscrew the nut.

CAUTION: The transmission sprocket nut has left-hand threads. Turn nut clockwise to loosen.

The sprocket should then slide off the tranny main shaft.

What do you mean by pulley tensioner bearing?
The M2,like every tuber, has no pulley tensioner and because of that no pulley tensioner bearing!
The XBs do have a belt tensioner.

P.S.Beside a good nut and a reliable long armed torque wrench (near to 300Nm),heat is the secret to remove the sprocket nut.

I think he means the secondary drive front pully, and the bearing that supports it.

If so, bad news. There are bearings both inside and outside that 5th gear drive assembly, and you get at them by pulling the transmission (yes, from the other side) and pressing that assembly out of the case (hopefully not breaking anything).

Its a big job, and in theory needs special tools (though I successfully did it myself with home built tools). And there are lots of ways it can go badly. But I did it and it went fine. Pulling the tranny is not bad on a tuber.

Once you press that assembly out, you have destroyed the outer bearing (no way to do it without that). And the inner bearings on that assembly must be pressed out with hydraulic press... that was the one part I took to a dealer to do. They claimed it was a bear and took a full hour of labor, but it was a now no longer Buell dealer, and for good reason, so who knows. : (

Is it the inner bearings (needle bearings) or outer bearings (big ball bearing) that are concerning you? What are your symptoms?
