Does anyone know if there is a after market clutch basket in the aftermarket for an 2005 xb12s? I'm looking for a billet basket in particular, I'm sure there has to be something out there for an xl/buell I just hcan't find anything.

Start with Barnett, Rivera, S&S and Primo. Pick up a J&P catalog. Should get you started in your search.

I have a 1990 sportster 883 xlh, substantially the same drive train as a buell. I just finished building the bike as a custom bobber. The transmission worked fine until last week.

Same problem: the clutch no longer fully engages (disengages). The bike won't roll in gear when the clutch lever is pulled all the way in. It's hard to shift. Neutral is virtually impossible to find.

The problem did not exist until last week. It happened instantly, not gradually. I have adjusted the clutch via the clutch cable as well as the clutch adjustment screw inside the primary cover. No good. I removed the primary cover and nothing seemed out of place. It worked fine when I replaced the cover, but only for a few seconds.

I can't help but think that the cause and the fix are simple. Maybe I'm in denial but I don't want to go to a dealership.

Does anyone have any ideas? Do you think replacing the clutch basket is necessary?

the basket is with or without starter ring.

question : i noticed a little freeplay of my clutch basket when, few days ago, i removed the primary case to check and adjust the shifting mechanism.
just a LITTLE play of about 0,1 - 0,2 mm of the basket( nut in place and tight) , i was thinking about the basket bearing but it does'nt works a lot so...any help ????

I just had a problem with noise and took the primary apart about a month ago. Clutch basket had play in it so I took it off too. Took the trans out and had the bearings replaced. Good as new now. So I would say if you have play in your clutch basket, you will need new bearings.

i'm not speaking about the main shaft bearings and the internal pack of disks that's all perfect and no signs on the case of basket frictions on it.
the free-play id done by the small rollers bearing that fit the basket on the disks pack.
i don't know if that bearing is sold separately or if basket and bearing is one piece.

Alex : 1 mm maybe less ( the basket moves just a little only in diagonal not in and out from the case ..hope you got what i mean). i think that bearing works only when you pull the clutch...
i was tempted to pull apart the front sprocket to ...to show you if i was remember right about the timken bearing .
thank's for your interest

thank you all

Alessio,

the fact that You can tilt the basket for about 1mm is normal and ok. It´s because of the needle bearing supporting the basket against the clutch hub. This bearing has some radial play which adds up to noticeable movement of the basket.´
