Your switches would be the first thing I would check. Check for resistance across them and if you are getting a reading, you know they may be bad..

I don't know the XB's electrical system, but if it was a fuse, you shouldn't be getting any power to the lights at all.

It could be a defective front brake switch which is a mechanical device or a defective rear brake switch which is a hydraulic pressure device. So, to find out which one is bad (if it's a switch problem), temporarily disconnect the wires from the front switch and see if the problem goes away.

If it does, the switch could be jammed in the closed position and might be fixed by cleaning.

If it doesn't, the problem is most likely the rear switch or a wiring problem in the harness.

After I tore the rear end apart 3 times checking the wiring, I finally decided to break down and ask my father what was wrong. He asked, what kind of bulb do you have in there? I got to thinking and the other week I stopped by kmart in a hurry and just popped one in there. Well after all the work, I didn't have the right type of bulb in.
